Cerebellar Hypoplasia
Definition:

Cerebellar hypoplasia in cats and dogs is a disorder in which cause immature cerebellum at birth often compared to cerebellar abiotrophy. They have the same signs but abiotrophy is usually genetic.


Diagnosis:

Suspected animals will be tested and compared with related syndromes; radiological findings on MRI indicated vermis hypoplasia related to the appearance of the molar tooth. The precise result of the findings will be attained with molecular genetics.


Treatment:

Supportive and symptomatic treatment is considered the most effective prevention of cerebellar hypoplasia. There are no standard methods of medication or treatment to cure the decease.


Symptoms and Signs:

Sign of cerebellar hypoplasia includes delay in development, seizures, involuntary eye movement, and mental retardation at early age. At a later age, symptoms include vertigo, headache, impairment in hearing and imbalance.


Causes:

Thyroid abnormalities can be the main cause of cerebellar hypoplasia. Influences in the environment such as chemical or drugs are also a reason and stroke or viral infection.
